Samsung has announced the introduction of a 200-megapixel image sensor for smartphones, which will be the highest-resolution camera sensor ever.
The ISO cell HP1 has 0.64μm pixels and this sensor is capable of taking very large images.
In real life, phone cameras rely on the sensor's pixel-binding capability, which combines 4 pixels into one large pixel.
This new sensor can perform very well in low light and provides an effective resolution of 12.5 megapixels by integrating 16 pixels into larger 2.56μm pixels.
Samsung has dubbed the sensor's bunning technology the chameleon cell, which can capture 12.5-megapixel as well as full 200-megapixel resolution images for low light or use the 2-by-2 bunning technique of 50-megapixel images. ۔
The camera can also record 8K video from two-by-two banning mode and according to the company it can shoot 8K video without cropping.
Samsung has also introduced another ISO Cell GN5 sensor.
It has a 50 megapixel sensor with 1.0μm pixels.
Samsung said it is the first 1.0μm pixel sensor to be connected to the Dual Pixel Pro technology.
Samsung did not say when mass production of the new sensor would begin, but samples are available for phone manufacturers.
